In 1995, the right wing Hindi government changed the name of India’s largest city from the British name of Bombay to Mumbai. Named after the city’s patron deity, the goddess Mumbadevi, the government was trying to shed all legacy of British colonial rule.

Life in India, said Rohinton Mistry is “a fine balance between hope and despair”. MUMBAI takes the eyes of the viewer on a sensory journey of old Bombay, through heavy textures and over strong uncompromising colours. You can almost taste the orange curries, feel the threads of yellow saffron, and smell the leather of the elephant’s “howdah”. MUMBAI captures the wild mood of this enormous city by the sea. The riot of colour sets it afire.
